KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 -- Members of the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) are offering relief assistance to ease the financial burden of customers who are affected by the floods in several states in the country.

In a statement today, MTA said the members are committed to offering assistance to flood victims that includes shortening the process of insurance claims made, payment of annual contribution on an instalment basis and contribution payment deferment.

"Certificate holders are advised to contact takaful insurance operators to obtain the details of their respective coverage or refer to the operators' social media announcements about the flood relief measures," it said.

MTA said certificate holders are advised to ensure relevant details are provided to the operators such as the type of takaful insurance policy and period of coverage, information about the incident, details and supporting documents, and other related information.

"Given the increase in weather-related natural disasters, MTA would like to advise the public to review their takaful certificates with their agents to establish if the insurance cover provided is sufficient to mitigate any financial impact due to flood damage and losses," it added.
