WIEF GLOBAL DISCOURSE TO DISCUSS CYBERSECURITY FOR MICRO, SMES

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 -- The World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) Foundation, through its WIEF Education Trust (WET), will be organising the 10th WIEF Global Discourse on Cybersecurity for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) on Dec 15 via Zoom platform.

Themed “Risks, Adversity and Trust”,  the 45-minute session will discuss the importance of securing information technology (IT) infrastructure and data, as well as ways to overcome threats while ensuring that business owners are aware of the pressing needs to protect their business and employees.

In a statement today, WIEF said the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated companies’ digitisation by a global average of six years.

While this is a positive impact from the pandemic, the world is also forced to face and manage the threats that comes with digital advancement.

“There is a noticeable upsurge in online crime and scams, especially those aimed at MSMEs as they are easy targets due to lack of resources to implement comprehensive cybersecurity solutions.

“It is high time for these businesses to start prioritising cybersecurity, by first understanding and appreciating the value of their business database and how they can protect it for from malicious attacks,” WIEF said.

The speakers for this year’s discourse are CyberSecurity Malaysia chief executive officer (CEO), Datuk Amirudin Abdul Wahab, US GrowBiz Media president and CEO, Rieva Lesonsky, and Matryzel Consulting Inc chairman and CEO, Bobby Varanasi, with Glenreagh Sdn Bhd managing director Nordin Abdullah acting as the moderator.
