04/12/2020 06:43 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 -- Ways for the banking sector and capital market to move forward in the post-pandemic era will be discussed at a webinar organised by the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) Foundation in collaboration with the Securities Industry Development Corporation (SIDC).

The WIEF-SIDC PowerTalk Webinar 2020, to be held on Dec 8 with the title “Moving Forward: Banking and Capital Market Trends”, will feature industry leaders such as Bursa Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar and PricewaterhouseCoopers Australia global banking and capital markets leader Peter Burns as panelists.

AmBank Group managing director, wholesale banking, Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz, who is also WIEF advisory board member, is the moderator.

In a statement today, the WIEF said the session will focus on the global economic outlook amid the pandemic and how the banking and capital market industry can help to protect workers, bottom lines and liquidity, among others.

It will also cover how to ensure consumer options in lending and how to retain customers’ loyalty.

Realising that the banking and capital market play an integral part in helping economic recovery, the WIEF Foundation and SIDC have developed the webinar’s content to focus on ways to ensure that the cost curve is bent positively to produce a better profit, as well as the long-term impact on society.

“The discussion is aimed to help banks and capital markets to remain hyper-vigilant and have better coordination between different stakeholders or partners,” it said.

The foundation added that in this time of economic difficulties, the main economic players should focus on generating ideas through practical and diversified short-term turnaround strategies and collaborating with competitors to prevent monetary loss and business halt.
