NEGERI SEMBILAN JAN-JUNE INVESTMENT DOWN TO RM665 MLN
SEREMBAN, Dec 1 -- The amount of investment in Negeri Sembilan for the period of January to June this year declined to RM665 million, involving 11 projects, from RM811.2 million, involving 21 projects, in the same period last year, the State Legislative Assembly was told today.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said it was due to the closure of interstate and international borders following the COVID-19 pandemic that directly impacted the investment sector in the state.
“Out of the RM665 million, RM302.5 million were foreign-sourced investment and RM362.5 million domestic investment,” he said in response to Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (BN-Rantau).
The latter had asked about the projections used by the state government to control and offset the expected economic impact both at the federal and state levels.
Aminuddin (PH-Sikamat) said foreign-sourced investment was reduced by 50.3 per cent compared with last year’s, while domestic investment rose 79.1 per cent attributable to the strategy focusing on existing development projects.
In the meantime, he said, initiatives to overcome the shortfall include the Negeri Sembilan Investing Year 2021 which would be launched this month, and special incentives to support efforts to promote development.
“Among others, providing comprehensive facilities or end-to-end handholding, that is, coordination at the government level to help the private sector in a number of areas as well as accelerating the development implementation process,” he added.
