DIGI TELECOMMUNICATIONS SDN BHD has strengthened its 4G LTE (long-term evolution) network coverage in Perak, Penang, Kedah and Perlis, enabling more customers to enjoy reliable and high-speed mobile Internet.

Digi said its 4G LTE and LTE network now covers 92 per cent and 73 per cent of the population respectively in the northern region.

Its chief technology officer Kesavan Sivabalan said the company had completed about 85 per cent of its targeted deployment and upgrades for the northern region planned for the year and is working towards completing the remaining sites by year-end.

JABIL, a manufacturing solutions provider, has temporarily suspended its Plant 1 operation in Penang following the assessment from the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Nov 25 after 21 of its employees had been confirmed COVID-19 positive.

In a statement, Jabil said the company began swab testing since Nov 18 and to-date, more than 2,000 employees had been tested. 

"All other Jabil sites in Penang will continue to operate. We are complying with all the necessary protection measures and working closely with the MOH, local government officials and local health authorities to follow protocols," it said.

TIONG NAM LOGISTICS HOLDINGS BHD has initiated immediate response to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 after 27 positive cases were recorded among its workers at its warehouse in Johor.

Following the confirmation of a case on Nov 23, Tiong Nam immediately commenced testing and quarantine for all 267 in-house staff and subcontracted workers associated with the warehouse.

"Seventy-three test results received to-date confirmed 27 positive cases, with the balance of 194 tests pending lab results. 

"The infected workers are currently receiving medical attention at a government hospital, while workers pending results will continue to undergo quarantine," it said in a statement today.

HONG SENG CONSOLIDATED BHD is seeking shareholders approval for its proposed diversification into gloves, healthcare and hire purchase business on Dec 15.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Hong Seng said the company is transforming into a conglomerate that includes various businesses such as manufacturing and trading of gloves and other personal protective equipment (PPE) products.

The company is also seeking shareholders approval for its turnkey agreement with a contract value of RM59.40 million.

The agreement entails engaging Howellcare Industries Sdn Bhd to plan, design, supply, instal and commission the glove production plant, as well as undertake all marketing and sale of the nitrile butadiene rubber gloves for the group.

AIRASIA’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, AirAsia’s Virtual Allstar (AVA) has received over 45 million queries to date since the start of the pandemic, with 80 per cent of them being successfully resolved. 

"This is also more than five times the volume of what AVA received in the same period last year.

"AVA has managed to handle 36 million queries independently while the remaining requests which require further attention, were then transferred to live chat agents for assistance," it said in a statement today.
