26/09/2020 08:15 PM

GEORGE TOWN, Sept 26  -- Malaysia’s leading converged solutions company Maxis is recognised as Penang’s trusted technology partner for the state’s various smart state initiatives.

Maxis chief executive officer Gokhan Ogut said the collaboration between the two parties focuses on two areas in line with the Penang2030’s vision blueprint to strengthen the connectivity and digital infrastructure of the state.

He said that the two focus areas include the 5G-enabled Smart City Internet of Things (IoT) pilot projects, as well as the establishment of Penang’s first IoT Innovation Lab (Makmal Inovasi IoT).

“The IoT pilot projects include the deployment of smart city solutions in various sectors in the state, such as security, education and agriculture in order to exemplify the potential of technological advancement towards the state government’s digital ambition.

“We are aiming to complete these series of pilot projects within two years,” he told a press conference at the Penang Digital Library Phase 2 here today.

Ogut said the Penang’s IoT Innovation Lab is still under discussion with the state government.

Earlier, Ogut and Maxis head of government segment Senthil Balan, representing Maxis, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Penang government on its recognition of Maxis as the state’s trusted technology partner.

Signinng on behalf of the state government were State Trade and Industry and Entrepreneurial Development Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain and State Secretary Datuk Abdul Razak Jaafar.

The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Maxis chairman Raja Tan Sri Arshad Raja Tun Uda.

In his keynote address, Chow said the state government had a close door discussion with Maxis and was offered proposals on how the company could coexist with the Penang2030’s strategic plans.

“We welcome Maxis’ effort and collaboration in Penang and I believe that we will stand to gain very much in the collaborative work and participation of the digital transformation,” he added.
