PASUKHAS TO EXPORT RIVER SAND TO CHINA, HONG KONG

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 -- Pasukhas Group Bhd plans to export river sand to China and Hong Kong following the signing of an agreement with BB Energy Sdn Bhd and Pengurusan Pasir Pahang Bhd (PPPB).

The construction and engineering company said BB Energy had given its wholly-owned subsidiary, Pasukhas Products Sdn Bhd, an exclusive right to access, extract, dredge, sell and distribute river sand for export.

In June, BB Energy secured a concession/temporary occupational licence from PPPB at Sungai Miang in Pekan, Pahang, to extract, dredge, sell and distribute river sand for export.

“The contractual term (for Pasukhas) is for 12 months with an option to extend for a further 12 months, involving a monthly production of at least 200,000 cu metres,” Pasukhas said in a statement today.

 Its executive director, Mak Siew Wai, said the sand mining operation was expected to start only in March 2021 due to the ongoing Recovery Movement Control Order and monsoon season on the east coast from November till February.

“The company is expected to supply a minimum of 2.5 million cu metres of river sand per year to potential buyers from China and Hong Kong to be identified later.

“River sand is a widely used construction material and currently in high demand due to the rapid pace of construction and reclamation works in China and Hong Kong,” he said.

Mak said that appropriate sand mining operations would help to deepen the riverbed and reduce flood usually caused by high tide and monsoon in Pekan, Pahang.

“Under the agreement, PPPB has imposed strict control to curb excessive mining which may have an adverse impact on the environment as well as the livelihood of the resident affected by the sand mining activities with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Rehabilitation Fund,” he said.
