REMBAU, Sept 6 -- Technology Park Malaysia's (TPM) subsidiary, TPM Engineering Sdn Bhd, has taken the initiative to invent an innovative product, NEO Compostech machine which converts leftover food to compost.

TPM Engineering manager Roslan Muhamed said the NEO Compostech machine is used as an alternative solution to recycle leftover food to organic compost fertiliser within 24 hours.

“Besides the main function, it can also produce compost fertiliser in smaller particles compared with natural compost,” he said to Bernama at the state level National Science Week 2020 here, yesterday.

He said the composting process using the machine does not take a long time and it does not attract insects or emit bad odour, and at the same time, assist in reducing food waste disposal in the country.

Elaborating, Roslan said the company as the manufacturer of the machine also collaborated with selected entrepreneurs who will act as the supplier.

“To-date, the supplier has supplied the machine to several locations, among them, the Terengganu Agriculture Department, a hotel in Langkawi and rest and recreation areas of Plus Malaysia Bhd.

He said so far, 20 Compostech machines with sizes of 50 kilogramme (kg),100 kg, 150 kg, 200 kg and 250 kg from five models costing an estimated RM20,000 to RM150,000 have been produced.

Meanwhile, he said the usage of the compost machine would also able to increase the side income for the people.

“For example, vegetables that are not used or are spoiled can be converted into compost and can be sold or for own use, hence, can increase their income as well as reduce expenditure," he said, adding the machine are sold at prices starting from RM30,000 according to their size and demand.

However, he said the production of the compost machines for use by households is still at the study stage considering that the amount of food waste is still small compared with industrial users.
