MDEC PARTNERING WITH MORE TECH PLAYERS TO PRODUCE DIGITAL TECH EXPERTS

29/07/2020 11:42 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29  -- The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM), via its agency Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), will be working closely with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to partner with more technology companies to create digitally-skilled faculty experts and graduates.

The tech companies include Acestar, AWS, CISCO Academy, Microsoft, Oracle, Quandatics, and SaS Institute.

In a statement today, MDEC said its Premier Digital Tech Institutions (PDTIs) and Data Partner Universities will work closely with more technology partners to extend the Digital Tech Faculty Expert Programme (DTeX).

The partnership will allow the tech partners to contribute to the growth of industry-ready skills required in the workforce that are critical to meet the industry's current and future demand.

The DTeX initiative, which started in 2019, has to-date garnered the support of eight technology companies which have collectively trained 370 lecturers.

For this year, MDEC said DTeX aimed to further enhance the quality of teaching and learning at PDTIs and Data Partner Universities through the development of a pool of experts in digital tech subjects among faculty members.

MDEC vice president for digital talent development Dr Sumitra Nair said the DTeX 2020 initiative started in May this year with lecturers from 23 higher education institutions including 16 PDTIs.

“We are targeting a total of 200 lecturers to be trained over the next five months, who will then integrate their skills into their classes at their respective institutions, potentially impacting about 2,000 students. This will help to produce more job-ready graduates,” she said.
