MEDAC, KBS, KPT TO BOOST YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN BUSINESS

23/07/2020 04:13 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23  -- The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC) is collaborating with the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) and the Higher Education Ministry (KPT) to boost the youths and graduates’ participation in business.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said one of the programmes that could help in realising the goal is the SMEBank Young Entrepreneurs Innovation Programme.

Additionally, the ministry will be organising the Technopreneurship Programme for Fresh Graduates, together with the Malaysia Technology Development Corporation, he said at the launch of the Hom Malaysia, an online real estate platform here today.

The pilot programme would involve 400 young graduates from local higher education institutions who are keen on starting a career or becoming an entrepreneur in technology-based fields.

Wan Junaidi said 20 per cent of the participants would receive guidance to become technopreneurs, while the rest would be employed by technology-based companies.

He added that youths should also take the opportunity to participate in the e-hailing sector to introduce innovative services that could improve the quality of life.

“There are many startups offering e-hailing services in Malaysia that are growing and contributing to the nation’s economic growth," he said, citing notable local examples such as Fave, EasyParcel, TheLorry, Carsome, Moovby, Exabytes, SEA Gamer Mall and Aerodyne.

Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi said a study conducted by the ministry in April revealed that the consumers’ propensity to shop online have been increasing.

As such, he said, entrepreneurs should be always be aware of, and be ready to adopt the latest innovation and technology in running their business.
