KOTA KINABALU, July 7 -- Japanese bank Mizuho says it is keen to forge a cooperative relationship with Sabah Development Bank to attract more potential investors from the country to Sabah.

Mizuho Bank (Malaysia) Bhd chief executive officer Shojiro Mizoguchi said the relationship would allow Mizuho in facilitating as well as bringing Japanese investors to Sabah.

"We are a Japanese bank. We have operated for 30 years in Malaysia and nine years in Kuala Lumpur. We try to invite Japanese investors to Sabah.

"We try to have some relationship with Sabah Development Bank and other networking here, and we discussed this with (Sabah) Chief Minister (Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal)," he told reporters after a courtesy call on Mohd Shafie at the Sabah State Administrative Centre here today.

Shojiro said Japanese investors would have a great opportunity to invest in Sabah as the state has abundant natural resources, and Mizuho could be a bridge to Japanese corporates looking to invest in the state.

"Firstly, how to invite (investors) from Japan to here (Sabah), and (secondly), the credit transaction with Sabah state or Sabah Development Bank.

"We try to expand our business in Malaysia. We try to contribute more in Malaysia. That's the reason why we visit here," he added.
