KOREA TO SPUR DEVELOPMENT OF SEAWEED INDUSTRY AND EXPORT GLOBALLY

18/06/2020 06:03 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 -- The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in Korea says it plans to spur the development of its seaweed industry as an export-driven food industry worth 1 trillion won  (RM4.2 billion) by 2024.

It will be executed globally by K.FISH -- a Korean fishery export national brand under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of South Korea.

K.FISH Malaysia managing director Lee Dong Jun said seaweed was not previously so well embraced abroad and it was known as the grass from the sea.

“With increased travel and also the influence of Korean culture, seaweed is now reshaping its journey,” he said in a statement today.

Lee said K.FISH Malaysia plans to sell the seaweed online as it is already available at retail channels like Aeon, Jaya Grocer and Village Grocer.

He added that it will also be participating in food expos locally to further promote their range of seafood products from Korea.
