PENJANA HELPS BUSINESSES TO REOPEN -- MOHD NARODEN

06/06/2020 08:23 PM

KUCHING, June 6 -- The National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) will benefit entrepreneurs, including those in Sarawak, to restart their business, State Assistant Minister for Entrepreneur and SME Development Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.

He said PENJANA could help revive the country's economy that has been battered by the COVID-19 pandemic by tackling the business supply chain components so that the people could restore their businesses and livelihoods.

“The additional financial assistance in terms of grants, one-off cash, rent subsidies, loans, and incentives will enable most businesses to resume operations while workers can return to work.

“The Prime Minister and his team has taken an appropriate action such as spending money for the good of the people in less than three months since taking over the helm of government to combat the COVID-19 crisis," he said in a statement today.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, yesterday, announced grants and loans totalling RM700 million under PENJANA to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and mid-tier companies to enable more companies to subscribe to or use digitalisation services.

In addition, he said the banking sector is also offering an additional RM2 billion through the PENJANA Financing Scheme for SMEs to help the sustainability of SMEs involved in key targeted sectors.

A RM200 million financing will be offered by Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd (PUNB) to Bumiputera-owned businesses in the form of working capital.

Another RM300 million will be channelled through Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) to assist affected Bumiputera entrepreneurs, including training colleges, to get financing for working capital.
