KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 -- The Government-Linked Companies (GLC) and Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLIC) Disaster Response Network (GDRN) has received RM95.4 million contributions from GLCs, GLICs and the private sector to fight COVID-19.
It said RM79.8 million of the total contributions had been used to support hospitals under the Ministry of Health to purchase medical supplies and RM 15.6 million has been spent on non-medical related humanitarian aid assistance.
“Of the RM 79.8 million, medical supplies worth RM 52.3 million were directly purchased by GDRN member organisations.
“While medical equipment worth RM 27.5 million was purchased via Pharmaniaga Bhd who coordinated the procurement, warehousing and distribution of these medical supplies to public and institutional hospitals nationwide,” it said in a statement today.
According to GDRN, the medical supplies contributions included 138 ventilators, 35 patient monitors, 1,738 coverall suits, 56,200 disposable face shields and 140 medical volunteers.
In addition to medical supplies, GDRN also provided food, water, hygiene items, cash vouchers, personal protective items (masks, gloves, sanitisers), logistics support, volunteer mobilisation, via non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and communities to the B40, vulnerable and marginalised communities.
“The medical supplies and non-medical aid enabled by GDRN contributions have been distributed to various locations across the country, including 55 hospitals, 19 health centres, nine universities and the People’s Housing Projects (PPRs),” it said.
