KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 – OYO Malaysia and its partner nationwide are set to accommodate thousands of returning Malaysians in need of clean living spaces to practice self-quarantine by offering discounts of 50-60 per cent at its properties in the country.
With rates starting from as low as RM19 per night, OYO is also offering a seven-day stay worth RM450, a 14-day stay worth RM800 and a 30-day stay worth RM1,500 for long-stay packages.
OYO Malaysia and Singapore country head Tan Ming Luk said the offer is in response to the need for more quarantine centres in the country to cater to the influx of about 40,000 Malaysians from all over the world who are expected to return home and begin their 14-day mandatory quarantine.
“This number will rise significantly in the coming days as more Malaysians, who currently work and reside in Singapore, return home following the island republic’s decision to impose a month-long shutdown to contain COVID-19,” he said in a statement.
Currently, returnees from Singapore, who do not have symptoms, are required to self-quarantine for 14 days, while those with symptoms will be tested and hospitalised if they test positive for COVID-19.
The chain extends its offer to foreign guests stranded in Malaysia and personnel working in essential services, who are facing difficulty commuting to and from work, following adjustments to the operating hours of public transportation services in the country.
Tan added that the company continues to receive requests from their hotel partners in other towns and cities wanting to be included in the list of hotels that have extended help to their fellow countrymen across the country.
“The list will be updated regularly and I urge all in need of rooms to call our OYO careline for an updated list of hotels,” he said.
We will continue to accept reservations and check-ins in Malaysia from domestic guests working in the essential services, as well as foreign guests during the entire period of the Movement Control Order (MCO), he added.
The government has so far opened 90 quarantine centres across the country, but at least 409 quarantine centres will be required to cater to the large number of returning citizens.
