KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 -- AmBank Group has pledged its support to donate RM500,000 to Tabung COVID-19 via MERCY Malaysia as part of its efforts to assist the relief initiatives and cushion the outbreak’s severe impact on the national healthcare system.

Chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim expressed hope the contribution would ease the burden of healthcare front liners and workers during this challenging period.

“Our gratitude and prayers are with those who are working tirelessly around the clock to combat this health crisis.

“We are also exploring other means of assistance where AmBank Group is able to lend a helping hand for the benefit of the community in facing this outbreak,” he said in a statement today.

The group, in collaboration with PichaEats, will also sponsor over 200 meals daily in total for lunch and dinner for Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and Putrajaya Hospital front liners, doctors and nurses during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

Meanwhile, Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia has also committed to donating RM500,000 to MERCY Malaysia via an initiative by The Association of Banks in Malaysia to channel the funds specifically for critical preparedness, readiness and response support actions for the Ministry of Health and the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre.

Managing director and chief executive officer  Abrar A. Anwar said this is a challenging time for many around the world and Standard Chartered wants to support communities in the markets where it operates.

“In Malaysia, we understand the urgent need for aid and support for the brave front liners who battle with COVID-19 daily.

“We sincerely hope to relieve some of the pressures faced by our health professionals in their increasingly uphill battle in providing critical and life-saving measures to those affected by the disease.” he said in a separate statement.

Standard Chartered Malaysia said it is also providing relief assistance for clients who are feeling the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak. Under these measures, individuals and businesses can apply for flexible repayment options as well as extensions on their loans and financing with the bank.

In addition, the group via Standard Chartered Saadiq Malaysia and Standard Chartered Global Business Services Malaysia had earlier donated RM5,000 through another initiative by The Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia along with 20,000 pieces of face masks worth RM76,000 to front liners, it said.
