SUNWAY MALLS FEED UNDERPRIVILEGED IMPACTED BY MCO

31/03/2020 08:10 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 –The Sunway Malls Group have banded together to purchase boxes of prepared food from various food and beverages (F&B) operators within their malls to be distributed to communities in need that are affected by the current Movement Control Order (MCO).

In order to distribute the food packs, the group had worked with the Lions Club and Subang Jaya Municipal Council, Yayasan Chow Kit, What A Waste, Seberang Jaya state assemblyman and Yayasan Kebajikan Suria Permas Johor Bahru.

Sunway Malls chief operating officer Kevin Tan said the initiative, estimated to cost RM100,000, served as a form of business sustainability exercise involving Sunway Malls’ F&B operators while fulfilling its corporate social responsibility duties.

“Some of our restaurants and cafe remain open to cater to the demands of delivery and takeaway during the MCO and it is a win for all if we purchase packed food from them to feed the underprivileged,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Tan said after a month of MCO to shield the long-term outlook of the Malaysian economy and to curb a major virus outbreak, the group is looking forward to a rebound and normalisation in the coming quarters.

“All businesses, including us, need to take a look into our financials and revise our business plans for the year and next,” he said.

He said supermarkets, pharmacies and convenience stores in Sunway’s seven malls remained open during the MCO.

Tan added that Sunway Malls is now looking into measures to further assist its business partners following the extension of the MCO.

The group had previously announced a 14-day rent-free period for all of its non-essential business partners.
