KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 -- Techbond Group Bhd’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Techbond Greentech Sdn Bhd (TGSB), has collaborated with the Malaysia Palm Oil Board (MPOB) for the technical expertise and technology know-how transfer from MPOB in relation to a process to produce polyols from palm oil.
In a statement here today, Techbond said both parties would also leverage on each other’s technical expertise and know-how to develop a formulation to be used in the creation and production of palm oil-based industrial adhesives.
The project comprises two phases - workable formulation stage (Phase One) and commercialisation stage (Phase Two).
For Phase One, MPOB would conduct research and development (R&D) to create a workable formulation using its patented technology to produce polyols while under Phase two, TGSB would then produce polyols using Malaysian palm oil or its derivatives based on the formulation and to create a new type of industrial adhesives and ultimately commercialising the product, said the parties.
“We look forward to working hand-in-hand with MPOB to be a pioneer in the palm oil-based industrial adhesives using local sustainably-sourced palm oil. We will also be sharing our resources such as R&D capabilities facilities and technical expertise to create this first-of-its-kind industrial adhesives,” said Techbond managing director Lee Seng Thye.
Besides playing its part as a responsible corporate citizen, this was also part of Techbond’s strategy to widen its product range, he added.
“The environmentally-sustainable palm oil-based industrial adhesives would open up new opportunities for us to serve higher-end client markets across various industries, and thus enhancing our market presence,” Lee pointed out.
Techbond is a homegrown pioneer in developing and manufacturing industrial adhesives and sealants.
