BANGI, Oct 24 -- The Mismis Oral Care product range, commercialised based on Malaysian Cocoa Board (MCB) technology, is expected to penetrate new markets next year, including Brunei, India and West Asia.
Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) chief executive officer Datuk Norhalim Yunus said the success in developing the Mismis Oral Care products was a testament to MCB's world-class technology.
“MCB developed the technology to produce toothpaste from cocoa while MTDC helped in the transfer of technology to the entrepreneur for commercialisation,” he told reporters after the launch of the product range here today.
The Mismi Oral Care range comprises cocoa- and clove-flavoured toothpaste for adults, chocolate mint-flavoured toothpaste for adults, and chocolate- and bubble gum-flavoured toothpaste for children.
Mismis Oral Care producer NFA Technologies Sdn Bhd is a recipient of the commercialisation of research and development fund from MTDC to commercialise the technology of making toothpaste from cocoa.
Norhalim said the development of Mismis Oral Care was significant, as it marked the success of MCB's technology that was transferred to a local entrepreneur for commercialisation in the international market.
“The country's commodities such as cocoa need to have many downstream products so that local entrepreneurs can fetch higher prices for their commodities,” he said.
Meanwhile, NFA Technologies managing director Noormawarni Nordin said Mismis Oral Care products were currently available at dental clinics nationwide, Watsons online, Shopee and Lazada.
By the end of the year, she said, Mismis Oral Care would also carried by Tesco hypermarkets throughout the country.
