LANGKAWI,  March 30 (Bernama) -- The inaugural Cyber Defence & Security, Exhibition & Conference (CYDES) is scheduled to be held in March 2020 at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre here.

Organised by Alpine Integrated Technologies Sdn Bhd, CYDES would be held to complement the biannual Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Show or LIMA and is scheduled to be held in alternate years.

Over the past few years, countries in the Asia Pacific region have been sensitive in raising awareness on cyber war threats or Cyber Warfare, which is fast becoming a serious menace.

Various proactive efforts have been taken by the government to deal with cyber warfare, for example, the setting up of the Malaysian Armed Forces Cyber Defence Operational Centre (ATM CDOC) responsible for monitoring cyber threats against its defence system.

In addition, Malaysia has also enhanced information security in key sectors to mitigate risks and threats to its critical infrastructure through the Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) that safeguards critical sectors such as health, banking and finance, water, energy, information technology, transportation and defence.

Alpine Integrated Technologies in a statement said, clearly focusing solely on domestic measures is inadequate.

Malaysia as an ASEAN member nation has also taken the initiative to foster regional cooperation which is effective in facing the challenges posed by cyber warfare.

These include the ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cyber Security and the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting PLUS (ADMM-PLUS).

Nevertheless, the efforts and measures planned and implemented to overcome the threat of cyber warfare must be carried out through a continuous approach, which is both revolutionary and innovative.

This is why the main event of the three-day CYDES 2020 is the Perdana ASEAN Cyber Talk (PACT), where top country leaders and defence industry experts from ASEAN countries will participate in the event.

About 300 cyber technology exhibitors, both from the defence and security sectors would be invited to showcase their latest technology.

These include 10 international pavilions from Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, the United States, India, Japan, Malaysia, Oman, Singapore and South Korea.

CYDES 2020 will work closely with among others, the National Security Council under the Prime Minister's Department and the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Malaysian Police.
