SABAH ALLOCATES RM1 MILLION TO EMPOWER SME

SANDAKAN, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- The Sabah Trade and Industry Ministry has allocated a RM1 million grant for the development of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the state through the SIRIM-Fraunhofer programme.

Its assistant minister Azhar Matussin said it was a continuous commitment to ensure the success of the SME entrepreneurs through the programme which specifically designed to enhance the productivity of the SMEs via technology applications and interventions.

"A total of 25 SMEs in the state are funded under the SIRIM-Fraunhofer programme to assist them in terms of productivity and workforce reduction," he told a press conference after launching the SIRIM-Industry Involvement programme here today.

A total of 130 representatives from government agencies, industry players and local entrepreneurs of various sectors attended the programme.

Azhar said the state government was working closely with SIRIM in empowering the state’s industrial sector to create employment opportunities and to reduce the migration of the state youths to the peninsula.

Furthermore, he said the empowerment of the industrial sector was also important to the economy of the state.
