Work almost done, Penang CM finally gets to move into official residence

GEORGE TOWN, July 1 (Bernama) -- Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow will finally be able to move into his official residence - Seri Teratai - in Macalister Road, here at the end of the month. 

State Public Works, Utilities and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said renovation work on the 93-year-old premise is now 85 percent completed and is expected to be completed on July 15. 

“The residence has not been dwelled for a very long period and is riddled with problems. A decision was made by the state government to refurbish the house to allow the chief minister to move in.

“Refurbishment works began in January based on a 26-week contract worth RM1.05 million. Everything is on track, and that means the chief minister can move in at the end of the month,” he told reporters when visiting the residence today. 

Termite infestation was the biggest problem faced during refurbishment works, in which two colonies were discovered.....
