200-year-old cannons found at Fort Cornwallis restored

GEORGE TOWN, May 10 (Bernama) -- Two old cannons, which were found at Fort Cornwallis here during  excavation works by Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Global Archaeological Research Centre last February,  have been restored. 

The centre’s director Prof Datuk Dr Mokhtar Saidin said the cannons which date back to about 200 years ago during the King George III era, weigh 1,500 kilogram (kg) and 1,738 kg with lengths of 2.35 metre and 2.2 metre respectively.

“We have settled the restoration process, and the state government can take its time, and hope the restored cannons will be displayed where they were found, at the Fort,” he said told a press conference  at the Archaeology Gallery in USM here today.....
