Angkasa: Kedah can be corn grain-producing hub

YAN, June 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National Cooperative Movement (Angkasa) hopes to make Kedah a corn grain-producing hub following the anticipated success of its first such farming project in the state.

Angkasa president Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah said as a result of a joint venture between Angkasa and Famox Plantation (M) Sdn Bhd, the project in Napoh near Jitra was launched in May this year, with crop growth being very encouraging so far and a plentiful harvest expected this September. 

The grain, which is of a variety that is only suitable for animal consumption, is grown on 83 hectares of land and is expected to produce 520 tonnes of corn grain which can fetch returns of up to RM1.2 million for Angkasa, he said today, adding that the project was undertaken with an allocation of RM700,000.....
