5,000 complaints relating to insulting religion, prophet lodged with police, MCMC - Mujahid

BANGI, Aug 27  -- About 5,000 complaints have been lodged with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) relating to articles or provocative statements insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof said these were some of tens of thousands of complaints received by Jakim’s monitoring unit since it was set up in March to monitor provocative writings in all media platforms including on the social media.....

The High Court today dismissed an application by Sisters In Islam (SIS) Forum (Malaysia) challenging the decision of the Selangor Fatwa Committee declaring the organisation as deviant and having deviated from the true teachings of Islam, ruling that fatwa (edict) is the exclusive jurisdiction of the Syariah Court.
