KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 – The withdrawal of several "superstar'” status players has forced the national e-Sports team to review its target of two gold, one silver and three bronze at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines next month.
This is because the e-Sports events scheduled to be held from Dec 5-10 clash with their Dota 2 qualifier series for Major championships.
Team manager Firdaus Hashim said the other contingents were also expected to send semi-pro teams because their superstars would also be competing in the qualifiers in China and Europe.
“There might be a small change in the target after we discuss the development with the coaches, the Olympic Council of Malaysia and the National Sports Council next month. Our preparations have been going well and we started a boot camp since September,” he told a press conference at the National Sports Council here today.
The team will be taking part in six events namely Arena of Valor, Starcraft II, Dota 2, Tekken 7, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Hearthstone.
e-Sports is making its debut in this edition of the SEA Games.
