IPOH, Sept 23 -- Selangor head coach B. Sathianathan is optimistic that his team has a good chance to meet the target of advancing to the semi-finals of the Malaysia Cup although his charges lost 0-1 to Perak in the first leg of quarter-finals at Perak Stadium last night.
He said the target would still be possible as the Red Giants would be playing at home, in Shah Alam Stadium, for the return-leg match on Sept 29.
“In football, anything could happen, we want to bounce back in the second leg, losing 0-1 is better than losing 0-3.
“I believe that the support from the Red Giants’ fans will give the players an edge and motivation. Furthermore, no team will want to lose when playing at the home field,” he told a press conference after the match.
Earlier, Bos Gaurus’s only goal was scored by national player Brendan Gan in the 13th minute.
On his team’s performance, Sathianathan was satisfied despite the fact that some of the key players were injured.
“For example, Abdul Halim Saari and Mohd Syazwan Zainon were only at 50 percent (performance). Sandro Da Silva could not play due to the same problem. So, I believe my players gave a good game,” he said.
Meanwhile, Perak coach Mehmed Durakovic admitted his charges will have the daunting task in the second quarterfinals in Selangor following the slight advantage last night.
However, he was confident that his boys will give their best fight to maintain their advantage and move on to the semi-finals.
“It would not be easy to face them (Selangor) in Shah Alam... players will need to give a 100 per cent commitment on the field.
