Missing teenager found drowned in a river

ALOR SETAR, Aug 30 -- The body of the teenager who was reported missing while bathing with his friend in a river behind Istana Anak Bukit in Kampung Seberang Chegar yesterday, was found this morning.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department operation assistant director, Senior Fire Superintendent Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain said the body of Muhammad Shukri Amri Kadir, 19, was found at 9.57 am about 20 metres from the spot he was last seen bathing.

“He was said to have experienced a leg cramp and drowned. The Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) divers found the victim in the riverbed. The body was then handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement here today.

Mohamadul Ehsan said 21 firefighters from the Jitra and Sungai Petani Fire and Rescue stations were involved in the search and rescue operation to find the youth after receiving the distress call at 2.42 pm yesterday.
