PBAPP denies claim about 72-hour water supply disruption

Last Update: 20/08/2019

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 20 -- Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) denies a rumour today claiming that a major water pipeline between Butterworth and the island here had burst and would disrupt supply over the next 72 hours.

PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said the utility company had been receiving numerous enquiries from domestic and industrial consumers of the rumour which was circulated via WhatsApp over the last couple of hours.

“This (the WhatsApp) message is not true and it was not issued by PBAPP,” he told Bernama.

The message claimed that several areas including Gelugor, Batu Maung and Bayan Lepas would be affected by the supply interruption in order to repair the pipeline.
