KUALA KANGSAR, July 6 (Bernama) -- A timber worker died after he was crushed by a falling tree branch measuring 40 centimetres in circumference at a logging site in Sungai Akar, Sayong, near here early this morning.

Kuala Kangsar police chief ACP Razali Ibrahim said in the 8.30 am incident, the victim, Chan Kok Loi, 63, who was driving a bulldozer came out of the vehicle to look at the tree to be disposed of.

“Suddenly a large branch fell and crushed the victim. The victim's son who was driving an excavator about 30 metres away rushed to the location to rescue his father while other workers cut away the branch,” he said in a statement here today.

Razali said the victim was pronounced dead by the medical officer upon arriving at Kuala Kangsar Hospital located about 20 kilometres from logging site.

He said a post-mortem conducted at 2pm found the cause of death was severe head injuries.
