A wheel chair from Socso for amputee

Last Update: 14/06/2019

LUMUT, June 14 (Bernama) -- If a former security guard previously had to move about on his right leg, the amputee can now heave a sigh of relief after his condition received the attention of the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

Azman Hamzah, 59, received a wheel chair from Socso to facilitate his movement after his left leg was amputated at the knee in November 2014 due to diabetes.

As a result of chronic diabetes, Azman also lost three right toes so that he could not hardly manage himself and had to live with his sister in Segari.

"Since losing my leg, I have stopped working and needed my sister to look after me. In this condition, I was forced to crawl to the toilet to take a shower or to go anywhere.

“Therefore, I am grateful to Socso for giving me this wheelchair which would ease my movement and enable me to rest comfortably,” he said when met at the Manjung branch Socso office here today.

Azman said it was like rubbing salt to the wound when he found out he was diagnosed with kidney problems which require dialysis treatment three times a week in 2015.

"I also need to go to the panel clinic regularly for dialysis treatment and I am grateful that I have a pension of RM843 per month to cover the cost of transportation," he said.

Meanwhile, Manjung Socso manager, Mohd Shaperi Md Salleh said the wheelchair is a contribution of the organisation to assist contributors especially those who have health problems.

"Azman's health and physical conditions entitle him to receive a pension from Socso and today we handed over a wheelchair for his survival," he said.
