Former school cleaners file for reinstatement

Last Update: 13/06/2019

SHAH ALAM, June 13 (Bernama) -- Thirty-five contract cleaners of eight schools in Selangor, who were laid off by their respective employers, filed their claims at the Industrial Relations Department here, to seek reinstatement to their former jobs.

The group's representative, M. Sivaranjani said the workers’ services were terminated since last month, without any reasonable cause.

"They were previously employed by various contractor companies and were hired to maintain the cleanliness of the school and its surroundings.

"Some of them have been working in the school for 15 years so when they were terminated without warning, it was very distressing for them as they have their families to support," she told reporters here today.

"We are here at the Industrial Relations Department not to claim for compensation but to file for reinstatement.

"... we have met with the department’s officials and they have assured that they would assist the workers and negotiate with the employers on this case," she said.
