Last Update: 19/02/2019

KUCHING, Feb 19 (Bernama) --  A total of 742 road accident cases were recorded in Sarawak under the Ops Selamat operation held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festive period from Jan 29 to Feb 15.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said it was a reduction of 20 cases from the same period last year.

"In terms of fatal accidents, 15 cases were recorded, with motorcyclists and pillion riders the group with the highest number of casualties at 11.

"The main cause of accidents was the negligence of drivers who failed to control their vehicles while driving and driving above the speed limit," he said in a statement here today.

Alexson advised road users to be more careful and responsible on the road as well as comply with all laws and regulations.
