Sultan Ibrahim attends CNY 'Chap Goh Mei' celebration

JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, today attended the Chinese New Year Chap Goh Mei celebration organised by the Iskandar Waterfront Holdings Group (IWHG) at the Danga Convention Centre here.

Nearly 3,000 people attended the celebration.

The sultan arrived at about 12.30 pm and was welcomed by IWHG executive vice-chairman Tan Sri Lim Kang Hoo and state secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani.

State Women Development and Tourism Committee chairman Liow Cai Tung and State Youth, Sports and Culture Committee chairman Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar were also present.

Sultan Ibrahim and the other dignitaries tossed the Yee Sang salad as an auspicious gesture of the Chinese New Year.

The guests were also entertained to traditional Chinese dances and a drum performance, as well as a performance by artists from Surabaya, Indonesia.
