MIRI, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- A 20-year-old was RM4,700 poorer, after falling prey to a Facebook advertisement that offered a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle at an affordable price and with instalments.
Sarawak Crime Investigation Department chief, Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah said the victim, a general worker, was impressed the black Kawasaki Ninja 250cc offered by "Eastzsmilar jay Junior" on Facebook in 2017.
“Both the victim and suspect agreed to the price of RM7,000 with payments to made in instalments,” he said in a statement today.
Mustafa Kamal said the victim had met the man in July 2017 at the Servey supermarket area, Taman Tunku in Miri and handed over RM1,000 cash, in advance.
“On the same evening, the suspect took the victim to view the motorcycle in a housing area at the Padang Kerbau Bridge, Jalan By-pass,” he said.
Mustafa Kamal said the victim deposited a total of RM3,700 into a Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) account in the name of Ismail Jain in nine transactions with the last one made on Nov 10, 2018.
He said the suspect promised to deliver the motorcycle after the victim made the last payment as he wanted the motorcycle immediately for daily use.
“The suspect is now nowhere to be found and cannot even be contacted, while the motorcycle is no longer in the housing area," added Mustafa Kamal.
The victim realised he was cheated and decided to lodge a police report yesterday, he added.
