MELAKA, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- The Malay World Islamic World (DMDI) International College aims to enroll about 100 students for the May intake of its new Hotel Management Certificate course, said DMDI Foundation chairman Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam.
He said the new course was introduced by the college as the hospitality industry, especially in Melaka, was growing in tandem with the tourism state status that provided many jobs and a good career prospect.
For a start, he said about 20 students from the cource would undergo a six-month practical training at Platinum Hotel and Suites on Melaka Island here to prepare them for jobs.
“We have forged a collaboration with Platinum Hotel and Suites to provide places to our students to undergo practical training on hotel management with the guidance of experienced staff.
“The hotel will provide an allowance of RM1,000 per month to each student who undergoes the practical training that can be used for payment of college fees," he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DMDI International College and Platinum Hotel and Suites here, today.
The MoU was signed by DMDI International College rector Prof Datuk Dr Amir Hussin Baharuddin and DMDI International Education Board member Datuk Sharabuddin Kudus, while Platinum Hotel and Suites Sdn Bhd was represented by its general manager, M. Maniraja and managing director Heng Swee Aik.
Mohd Ali said if the certificate programme proved successful, the college would offer diploma and degree courses in Hotel Management, while cooperation with the hospitality industry would also be expanded to enable the students to have more choices for practical training.
Meanwhile, Heng said the collaboration was a good start for Platinum Hotel and Suites to enhance its position as a new hotel in the state, as it started operations a month ago.
“Even though we are new, the hotel has over 50 experienced staff in hotel industry to provide guidance to the students on hotel management," he said.
