Duo fleeing from police get rid of gun

GEORGE TOWN, Jan 12 (Bernama) - Two men believed to be criminals who were on a motorcycle  got rid of a pistol while being pursued by police along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway here early this morning.

A police spokesman told Bernama that in the 2am incident, three policemen were conducting a crime-prevention patrol in the Jelutong area when they stopped two men on a motorcycle and as  they got near, the motorcyclist sped off.

He said the police pursued them but as they reached the highway, the motorcyclist threw away the helmet while the man who was riding pillion threw away a pistol.

They then left the motorcycle by the roadside and fled to the riverside before they disappeared, according to the spokesperson.

The spokesperson said police found the pistol, a helmet, a pair of  sandals and seized the motorcycle.

Meanwhile, Northeast District Police chief ACP Che Zaimani Che Awang when contacted, confirmed the incident adding that investigations were being carried out.
