NILAI, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- A total of 30 Orang Asli children in Kampung Sebir, Labu, near here, today received contribution of RM200 in the form of school supplies through Back-to-School programme.
Organised by PKR Labu and Rasah divisions’ Wanita wings, the children received school uniforms, bags, shoes and stationery supplies each.
Political secretary to Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mokhtar Ahmad hoped the contribution would somehow ease the burden of the parents as well as provide an opportunity for underprivileged students to continue their studies.
“Most of these Orang Asli residents here have no fixed income and there are also Orang Asli children who initially refuse to go to school.
“After we persuaded and encouraged them (the children), now they want to go back to school,” he told reporters after the Kampung Sebir Community’s Back-to-School programme here today.
Meanwhile, one of the residents, Nuraina Ismail, 33, whose household income was below RM1,000, said the contribution would help reduce her burden in her preparations for her children to return to school next week.
“This programme helps me get free school supplies as my husband is only working as a lorry driver and my two children, Natalie Edrina Ashley Yeop, 13, and Apil Danish Yeop, 10, are still in school.
“It just happened that I haven’t bought their school bags yet, so this contribution is highly appreciated and I hope it will continue in the future,” she said.
