Sultan Nazrin performs Friday prayers at Sungai Gelugor Jamek Mosque

GEORGE TOWN, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- The Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah performed Friday prayers with the congregation at Masjid Jamek Sungai Gelugor, here, this afternoon.

Sultan Nazrin arrived at the mosque at 1.15 pm, accompanied by Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri, Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas; Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Penang Deputy Chief Minister 1, Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman.

The Mufti of Penang, Datuk Dr Wan Salim Mohd Noor led the congregation of about 2,000 people in performing the prayers, and the sermon was delivered by former Penang State Islamic Religious Council head, Datuk Elias Zakaria.

After the Friday prayers, Sultan Nazrin handed over a contribution of RM5,000 for Masjid Jamek Sungai Gelugor and spent some time exchanging greetings with members of the congregation before leaving the mosque.

Sultan Nazrin and Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim were scheduled to depart for the federal capital at 2.30 pm.
