'Families are grieving, give them space' - Chong

KUCHING, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- "The families of the victims are grieving, give them space," Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Chong Chieng Jen said when visiting the family of O Kui Lim who was killed in a gas explosion at City One Megamall here, yesterday.

The Stampin MP and Sarawak DAP Chairman said necessary assistance and contribution would be given to the families of the victims as some had lost their bread winner.

"The families of the victims are grieving, give them the space for now. We are only able to offer a small contribution to ease their burden,” he said.

Chong spoke to  reporters after paying his last respects to the late O Kui Lim at the premises of  Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng (a charity organisation) in Jalan Sekama, here today.

O, 49,  who left behind a wife and six children aged between 13 and 22, died after being hit by concrete debris shortly after the explosion. 

The other two who were killed in the 3.30pm blast were Sarawakian Tchee Kiam Jong, 24, and Chin Hsien Loong, 29, from Penang. Over 40 people were also injured in the incident .
