Melaka River Cruise stopped temporarily due to flood

MELAKA, Nov 21 (Bernama) – The  Melaka River Cruise (MCR) boat service has been temporarily stopped since yesterday for safety reasons due to the floods in several areas in the state.

Melaka River and Beach Development Corporation chief executive officer Azlan Abidin said the service was halted due to the strong current and high water level of Sungai Melaka.

 He said due to the floods, the barrage gates at the river mouth were opened and this resulted in the water in Sungai Melaka to rise to 1.4 metre, from its normal level of 1.2 metre.

As a result, the cruise boats could not pass under one of the eight bridges along the river, he told reporters during a visit to the barrage gates at Sungai Melaka here today.

He said the service would resume after the situation returned to normal.
