Chalk ceiling in Melaka Planetarium exhibition hall collapses

MELAKA, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- A portion of the chalk ceiling at the Melaka Planetarium exhibition hall collapsed during the rainstorm in Ayer Keroh here today.

Melaka Planetarium Sdn Bhd chief executive officer, Datuk Mohd Ariff Shah Abdullah Sani, said that in the 1.25 pm incident, the education-based tourism centre was open to the public but there were no visitors or employees present during the incident.

He said, shortly after the incident occurred, the premises which was opened in 2009 was closed immediately as a precautionary measure.

“I’ve lodged a police report. Firefighters were also present at the site and we agreed to close the Melaka Planetarium building temporarily until the Fire and Rescue Department and the Public Works Department complete their investigations.

The next statement will only be issued after the investigation is completed, he told Bernama when contacted here, today.
