Last Update: 16/11/2018

BATU PAHAT, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- As floodwaters recede, two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) opened on Monday in the state have been closed.

Johor Civil Defence Force (APM) director Colonel (PA) Mat Zin Bujang said the two centres had been opened in Kampung Kolam Air Simpang Renggam, Kluang and Kampung Parit Jayus 4 Sri Medan, Batu Pahat.

Both evacuation centres had housed 116 victims from 25 families, who were evacuated due to non-stop heavy rain for about six hours. Forty-one victims were placed at the centre in Kluang and 75 at the centre in Batu Pahat.

“The centre at Kampung Kolam Air was closed on Wednesday at 9.30 pm and the centre at Kampung Parit Jayus 4 Sri Medan was closed at noon this afternoon after floodwaters had receded.

“Although the two evacuation centres have been closed, the Civil Defence Force and other agencies helping out with the floods will continue to monitor the situation,” he said when contacted by Bernama here, today.
