KOTA KINABALU, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- The Sabah government is in the process of formulating strategies to ensure the children in the state will be able to pursue tertiary education at the top 20 universities in the world, says its Education and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob.
He said the priority for sending the Sabahans to study at the world-renowned universities would be given to those from the B40 group.
“The state government believes education is one of the effective approaches to eradicating poverty,” he said in the winding-up speech for his ministry at the Sabah State Legislative Assembly today.
Yusof said an allocation of RM52 million for scholarships; bursaries and other financial assistance for education announced during the tabling of the state 2019 budget would enable more Sabahans to further their tertiary education and skills training either locally or abroad.
He said there was an increase of RM15 million in the allocation for education sector compared to RM37 million allocated in state budget last year.
