Rescued sun bear, returned to the wild

KINABATANGAN, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- A previously rescued Sun Bear from Kampung Abai near here was successfully returned to its original habitat at Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, yesterday.

Sabah Wildlife Department (SWD) Public Relations Officer Siti Nur’ain Acheh said the adult male Sun Bear was rescued on September 20 after the SWD was alerted about its presence around Kampung Abai.

The sun bear which was known as Ace had fully recovered from injury on its front leg after 46 days of treatment and rehabilitation by veterinary officers of SWD  at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation  Centre (BSBCC) at Sepilok Sandakan, she said in a statement, today. 

Siti Nur’ain said Ace was returned to its original place and he was released with a satellite collar to monitor its movement in the forest.
