Beware of fake Statistics Dept officers, public told

Last Update: 11/10/2018

PASIR MAS, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan state Statistics Department has advised the public to be cautious and not to be deceived by  “officers” from the department claiming to be carrying out a census.

Its director Zuraidy Zainal Abidin said census officers from the department would always wear a vest and have accompanying papers and authorisation cards as identification which allowed them to collect data.

"If people are in doubt about the actual status of the census officers, they can request for their authorisation cards and contact our department immediately for verification," he told reporters after launching the 'Stats Fun' 2018 Programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kubang Bemban here, today.

Zuraidy said this following a recent incident in a state when officers from the department wanted to conduct a census but were prevented from doing so by the local residents.

"The residents claimed that department officers had already conducted the census when our officers arrived to carry out the task " he said.

He said there were some parties who claimed to be officers from the department which was in fact, an excuse for them to enter the homes of the people to sell their products.

"When people impersonate as officers from our department, it affects our department's personnel from carrying out their duties," added Zuraidy.

Commenting on the programme, he said that 85 Form Four students from the accounting and business stream had participated. It was among the approaches taken to use the nation’s official statistics in school learning.

The programme was also one of  the activities planned by the department in conjunction with National Statistics Day on Oct 20, each year, he said.
