Abandoned baby under care of Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital

Last Update: 10/10/2018

KUANTAN, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The baby boy found abandoned in a women's toilet at the Kuala Lumpur-bound Lanchang lay-by, early yesterday morning, has been placed under the supervision of the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital.

Pahang Social Welfare Department (JKM) director Zulkhairi Zainol Abidin said although no injuries were found, the baby believed to be newly-born, would continue to receive treatment at the hospital.

"JKM officials have visited the baby to check on his progress and he was found to be in stable condition. However, he will remain in the  hospital until he is certified healthy and allowed to be discharged," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

After being discharged, he said a welfare protection officer would apply for a court order to temporarily place the baby at a welfare institution as well as apply for the baby’s birth certificate.

In the 5am incident yesterday, members of the public found the nude baby covered in faeces in the women's toilet at the Lanchang lay-by in Temerloh.
