Lorry attendants jailed five years for robbing teenager

PETALING JAYA,  Sept 26  (Bernama) -- Two lorry attendants were sentenced to five years’ jail and a stroke of the cane each by the Sessions Court here today for robbery.

Judge Azwarnida Affandi handed down the sentence on M. Partiban, 23, and G. Loganathan, 21, after they changed their plea to guilty.

They had initially pleaded not guilty to a charge with robbing a 16-year-old boy at the Puchong Perdana MRT Station, Puchong hear here, at 1 am last April 15.

According to the facts of the case, Partiban and Loganathan were detained by two policemen on patrol duty who saw them behaving in a suspicious manner and following a search found them in possession of a sling bag belonging to the victim.

Partiban and Loganathan, both unrepresented, were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years and fine, or whipping, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Mawarni Abd Halim prosecuted.
