US Embassy To Set Up American Corner In UMK

Last Update: 07/03/2018

KOTA BHARU, March 7 (Bernama) -- The United States (US) embassy in Kuala Lumpur will set up an American Corner at the Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) in the near future, said its counsellor for Public Affairs Bradley Hurst.

Hurst said the corner, which would be filled with information about the US, would help students and the public to gain access about the culture, history and education.

"We are still working on the resources but it will have information on both electronic as well as printed materials and it will focus on the US. But even beyond the resources we will anticipate that a lot of programmes will be happening.

"We have a couple of programmes if not more but to start with regular visit by our education advisor in Kuala Lumpur to have information session with the students at the corner," he told reporters here today.

Earlier, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the embassy and UMK.

Hurst signed the MoU on behalf of the embassy and UMK was represented by its Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Husaini Omar.

Meanwhile, Husaini said the corner would benefit 10,000 UMK students at its Pengkalan Chepa, Bachok and Jeli campuses.

"The objective of this American Corner is basically to give exposure to students and public in Kelantan on the culture or any information about the United States," he said.
