ESSCom Nabs 30 Illegal Immigrants In Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU, March 7 (Bernama) -- The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) detained 30 illegal immigrants in an integrated operation on 'rumah kongsi' (makeshift workers' housing) at the Fourth Mile Jalan Segama here last night.

ESSCom commander DCP Datuk Hazani Ghazali said 26 Philippines nationals and four Indonesians, aged between three and 52, were picked up in the approximately three-hour operation which ended at 2 am today.

"Some 44 workers were questioned and 30 of them were arrested for not having any valid identification document or possessing dubious copies," he said in a statement here today.

Hazani said all the illegals were taken to the Tawau Temporary Detention Centre for further action under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 before being deported to their respective countries.

Meanwhile, in ALOR SETAR, the Kedah Immigration Department hauled up 58 illegals of various nationalities in an operation, dubbed 'Op Mega', at a construction site and premises in Sungai Petani yesterday.

Checks on 183 illegals led to the arrests of 23 Indonesians, 19 Myanmar nationals, nine Bangladeshis four Nepalese and three Pakistanis, aged between two and 54, its director Zuhair Jamaludin said in a statement here.
